Electromobility has experienced an impressive upswing in recent years and has developed from a niche market into a mass phenomenon. The constantly growing range of electric vehicles, from inexpensive small cars to luxurious SUVs, enables consumers to customise electric mobility to their individual needs. One key trend that is revolutionising the automotive industry is autonomous driving. In this article, we look at the current trends and developments that will shape the future of electric mobility.
The integration of autonomous driving functions is a fascinating trend. Electric vehicles are increasingly being equipped with advanced assistance systems that pave the way for autonomous driving. This fusion of electric mobility and autonomous driving could fundamentally change the way we use vehicles.
Our survey of electric car owners offers insights into attitudes towards autonomous driving: While 75% can imagine using autonomous driving vehicles in the future, there are clear differences between age groups. People born in the 1950s show an above-average rejection rate of 40%. In contrast, the 1990s generation shows the greatest acceptance with an impressive 88% in favour. The survey results also indicate that drivers of Tesla or cars from the Hyundai Motor Group are more open to autonomous driving than drivers of cars from Volkswagen AG or other brands.
Another key aspect is the continuous improvement of battery technology, which is leading to impressive increases in range. These advances alleviate concerns about limited range and make electric vehicles more attractive to a wider range of consumers. At the same time, the expansion of the charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. A nationwide, user-friendly charging infrastructure not only enables faster charging times, but also facilitates long-distance journeys and makes travelling by electric car more convenient in general.
The focus on sustainability goes beyond the mere drive component. Car manufacturers are increasingly focussing on sustainable materials, environmentally friendly production processes and recycling processes to further reduce the ecological footprint of electric vehicles. These proactive efforts are helping to shape electromobility in a way that is not only low in emissions, but also sustainable in terms of resource consumption and environmental impact.
Fascinating advances are emerging in electric mobility that will continue to drive the industry forward. In the coming week, we will conclude our ongoing series “Under power: A journey into the world of e-car drivers” and summarise the key findings once again.
